This book has already been published in the US as The People You Meet on Vacation. I received the British version from NetGalley, hence, the different title and publishing date and cover.

In the beginning, the book seemed very confusing and disjointed. But, it had excellent reviews and I had committed myself so plodded on.

The confusion ended…..the premise was actually quite simple. Alex and Poppy are good friends of the opposite sex. Every year they go on vacation, a place of their mutual choosing and the relationship remains entirely platonic. Except, then it doesn’t.

The storyline flips back and forth, from this year’s trip back to one of the previous trips. Some of the experiences were good, some were forgettable. There were some funny moments. Poppy, especially, has an “off the wall” sense of humour, something I appreciate. Alex is a bit of a stick in the mud. But, together, they have a good time. Naturally, there are a few bumps in the road.

It’s easy to see where the storyline is going. In fact, Poppy keeps talking about it. This has been a very popular book and has received many great reviews. I’m going to have to go against the trend. It was entertaining at times and a light read. But, it was too drawn out. It just seemed to keep going and going and going. When I was at 50-60% I just wanted to get it over with.

To me, it was just an ok read.
