I am not sure what I just read. I had to think about it overnight before I wrote this review. This is one of the strangest, weirdest books I have read in a very long time.
Natalie is the host of a homemakers’ streaming show. She wants to present a wholesome image with a household of many happy children, a wonderful husband, organic products. Christianity plays a huge superficial role. In fact, everything is superficial.
She suddenly wakes up in 1805. But, it’s not exactly a time travel experience. Being in the past allows her to reflect on her younger life that brought her to where she is in the present. Confusing.
Natalie is not a likable or relatable character. She is an unreliable narrator. In fact, other than the children, there are no likable characters in this book.
There are a lot of statements about society. I’ll leave that to the other readers to figure out.
It is well written, very descriptive with good character development. It kept me turning pages. For these reasons, I would rate it 3.5, lowered to 3 stars. But, I did not really like it even though I did find it both fascinating and disturbing. Especially the ending.
I wish I could express my thoughts better about this book, but I do not have the thoughts or words to do it.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the Advance Readers Copy.
