“The darkness goes where light refuses to be.”
These romantic suspense books really is KMod at her best. I said this when I read Hemlock, and I’ll say it again. KMod, please give us a book that is purely romance!!! I think it would be a fantastic book!!!! She really knows how to mesh these two genres together like nothing else that I have ever read.
In this novel, Tessa Beckers never wanted to return home. Her heart was broken there, her mother had a stroke and is in a nursing home, and murders took place there. But not her best friend, Britney, from when she grew up has passed, and she is returning home to attend the funeral. What she didn’t expect was to have to stay at her brother’s house with the one that broke her heart. While she struggles with her feelings for Garrett, she begins to learn the truth about the past, and what really happened all those years ago. Has her whole life been a lie?
I know when people read reviews for KMod books, they read a lot about her being the Queen of Twists. But, she really just has a way with words and creating connections between her characters. The connection between Garrett and Tessa was unbelievable and unbreakable. You could feel their connection and the love that they had for each other. It was really beautiful. The relationship between Tessa and her brother, Will, was also really amazing to read as well. I don’t have a close relationship with my brother, so I always like to read about close sibling relationships.
I loved the romance part so much that I didn’t try to guess the suspense/mystery part, the who was behind the murders. So I didn’t have any suspects in mind. However, I really didn’t suspect the person that it turned out to be, and the reason behind it was even more shocking! There definitely is a twist or two in there that threw me for a loop.
I really enjoyed this book and devoured it in less than 24 hours. I would have read it even faster if work didn’t get in the way! This ranks as one of my top favorite KMod books.
