This series is very clever. Kinda a little play on choose your own adventure, but with romance and spice. Instead of choosing between an open and a closed door romance, the author designates the chapters with spice with flame icons 🔥 and allows the reader to skip them if they so choose. Everyone is happy. But of course I read the spicy chapters.
While I’ve read books one and two of this trilogy, they really fit seamlessly together with book one even ending in a little bit of a cliffhanger. That said. The start of book two gives the reader a primer on what they need to know or maybe remember from book one. So no need to fret if you’ve only picked up book two.
I was all in rooting for Austen and Sydney in book one. Them getting their life together as they are kinda thrown together on this writing career but also as a couple. But as book two starts and other people are introduced into their lives, I like that they still had a connection, but found myself rooting for them to be with other people. I also found myself liking Austen a little less. But I’m hoping he has a redemption moment in the final book.
I loved the slice of the song writing industry that laid the foundation for book one. And my favorite character in book one might be Sydney’s dog Sampson. He was replaced by a couple of other characters in book two but I’ll leave that surprise for you to find. The icing scene. 😂
It’s a little bit coming of age, a little bit found family, and of course a romance. Body identity, childhood trauma, addiction and just a little bit of life are also part of this series.
I enjoyed my time with Sydney and Austin. Can’t wait to see how it all wraps up.
Thanks @katerockbooktours and @selinavioletauthor for my #gifted copies.
