Wow, what a great followup after the first book in the series! Not only do we follow some of the original characters from the first book, but we are introduced to new characters at the beginning of the second book. The book started off slow, but quickly became fast paced to where I forgot I was reading at all. The author kept to the plot perfectly, every trope that was used by the author was perfectly balanced, nothing was too overdone. As I read the action scenes (there are plenty of them) I couldn’t take my eyes off of the book because I wanted to know what happened, whether if it is my favorite character or enemy winning, I needed to know how the fights ended. The author, definitely kept up with the action and tension from the first book. I still find it fascinating how well the author blends fantasy while adding in one branch of the US Military (Navy) into his story. The author’s use of military lingo and setting details was neither excessive nor insufficient; it was just right. Reading about Pawly’s journey and the challenges faced, I inevitably felt sad because she gave up on her loved ones to keep them safe. The author continued to write characters , especially Pawly with flaws and demonstrated in order for them to get what they want they had to make choices and sacrifices. The characters are flawed, but that is one thing I love about reading the books,no one was shown to be these perfectly unflawed characters, they are shown to be humans who struggle too.
