For some reason, I have always enjoyed (perhaps that is the wrong word) books about dysfunctional families. Maybe the correct way to phrase it would be to say that they fascinate me. I’m not sure why, I don’t identify with them.

The Brennans are a prime example of a dysfunctional family…..every single member. Each one has problems, each one is keeping secrets from the others, each one is flawed. Conversely, as a unit, they are good to each other, support and love each other. But, individually, they make more than their share of bad decisions.

Each chapter is told from the perspective of a different character, the reader gets a great view of everything that is happening. The transition between chapters is very smooth.

The story is full of drama, perhaps melodrama. It is a fast read, it is an interesting read.

A quote from near the end of the book: β€œThey all screwed up, made mistakes, and hurt one another. But in the end, they came together.”

In conclusion, the Brennans are almost like many families we know. Almost…
