This is the third book in the Lexi Winter series, about a former escort turned police officer in central New South Wales, Australia. It’s helpful but not essential to have read the two previous books, Unforgiven and Retribution, to understand the characters and their relationships. These are gritty police procedural thrillers with a recklessly brave heroine and good support cast.

Lexi is still recovering from injuries sustained in her last case when she is persuaded to go back undercover into the world she thought she’d left behind, to help rescue her friend Dawny’s husband – the violent misogynistic biker club that she hung out with as a teenager. If they discover her new profession, they’ll kill her, so Lexi must use her exceptional hacking skills to ingratiate herself, and get the evidence the police need. Then she is betrayed by someone on her own team, and must decide once and for all which side of the law she belongs on.
I’ve really enjoyed these fast-paced tense thrillers – Lexi started out as a vigilante, but is now constrained by the rules – just about – but will still always do what she thinks is right, over what the law says. This has a mad bomber going on a revenge spree and I was genuinely nervous for certain characters. Looking forward to plenty more of Lexi’s adventures please! Thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin Australia for the ARC. I am posting this honest review voluntarily.
