Xander Gonzalez was headed to Azalea Creek to get better from his injury; he wanted to play hockey again and win the cup. Rain McAllister lives in Azalea Creek, as does her family. But she’s watching her life pass her by. She’s sassy and smart, and talented. She’s the head chef at the diner. She keeps to herself, and he needs to focus on getting better. Though, they have a pull to each other. And she is like no one he’s ever met before. But the scars of her past hold her back, and then they resurface. Will the scars hold her back? Or will Xander be able to break down her walls?

This book made my heart happy, and it made my heart soar. There is SO must to love about this book. I’ll commence gushing… now!

There is so much to love about this meddling/found family in this book. They want nothing but the best for each other and they are SO protective of each other. They question when necessary, but let up when they realize things are okay. They accepted Xander and realized he was great for Rain. You could feel their warmth and their love. I’d love to join the McAllister family.

Xander and Rain are like no couple I’ve read before. They are very much each their own person, but they are also very much adults. They speak and act like adults. His protectiveness over Rain is endearing. The way he is in touch with his emotions and feelings is attractive. I fell in love with this couple falling in love. They compromise, they do what they think is best for each other, they *mostly* talk things out, and if they don’t right away, they do eventually and then learn from their mistakes. It feels like a healthy relationship. He’s respectful of Rain. Yeah, Xander can be a little over the top with his declarations, but they made my heart swoon!

There is a bit of spice in this book, but let me tell you, I about cheered when I saw the author use the correct anatomical words for body parts!!! No fleshy mounds, no nubs! THANK YOU!!!
