The book really was about the main character trying to come out of her shell after repeated cycles of getting hurt. Obviously, there was fluff and predictability. Despite the small things there was a decent representation of anxiety, which as a person who dealt with that in the past it made life uncomfortable and unpredictable, second guessing everything and shutting down in a “fight” or “flight” mode. Having someone there as a support system though helps the healing. I liked how the mmc was protective over her and helped to get her out of the shell. He helped her to grow and have a backbone. Her love of true crime was hilarious! I would have liked to see more of Chloe and Mason.

It’s set in a small town surrounded by woods not too far from Seattle, Washington. The main character is as timid as a mouse working at a hardware store and on her off days creating Pinterest boards. This handsome stranger comes in one day who is helping to build this apartment complex and because of her awkward personality and fascination with true crime is drawn to her. She uses true crime like a protective force shield against strangers, like a comfort blanket. I love small town settings, you never would think something out of the normal would ever happen there.
