This book made me think about how much books can transform lives.
Tilly is grieving the recent death of her fiancé when she receives a call from a bookshop. She hasn’t read a book in forever, yet Joe has picked twelve of them for her—one for each month of the year. Each one has a letter from him to guide her through this first year of her grief. Her journey through these books and heartwarming notes makes Tilly reconnect with the world, the bookshop owner, and the community around her. As she turns the pages of the books, she is also turning the page on this chapter of her life.
This book is a treasure trove of feelings and a love letter to books all at the same time. It’s so very sad, but also heartwarming and life-affirming. It’s a book for anyone who believes in the magic and power of stories. Libby Page has written a beautiful and tender novel about love, loss, the magic of books, and new beginnings. I found it to be incredibly touching without being sickly sweet; it felt true to life, and the characters acted like real human beings.
It’s a poignant and uplifting read that made me both tear up and laugh out loud. It perfectly explores grief while at the same time filling you with hope. It reminded me that even in the hardest of times, books and their stories can help us heal and find our way toward the future. All. The. Stars.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
