The Undoing is equal parts unnerving and absolutely stunning. 100% a five star read for me, no question.

Through the lens of eight main and supporting POV characters, Davila weaves an intricate story of survival and found family. Each of the six main characters from diverse ages and backgrounds are brought together amidst a quest to survive.

The book not only has incredibly intricate storytelling and world building, but it also explores quite a few serious and meaningful topics in addition to the main plot such as life in the foster care system. I never quite knew what would happen next, but when the plot points finally came together, it did so in a way that was immensely satisfying.

This is a character-driven story and really leaves you rooting for the main characters, each with their own unique goals and motives. What really sets this story apart though, especially from some similar ones in the genre, is its exploration of humanity in a way that is equal parts heartbreaking and beautiful. Amidst the tragic scenery of an apocalyptic world, six strangers find family and comfort in each other. A powerful message about the strength of humanity, even in the toughest times.

The ending left me excited for future books in the series which is always a good feeling. I really want to know what happens next in the story.

Thank you to the author for supplying The Book Review Crew with a reviewer’s copy of this book. All thoughts are my own.
