I am not normally a fan of series. Since this series was all released a few years ago, I was able to keep the continuity by reading them one after another.
The story takes place over a few years, it’s not specified but, I think it is about ten years, with lots of back stories.
The setting is Red Mountain, Washington, in wine country. Everything centres around the wineries, the owners/developers and the neighbours. The original vintner in the story is Otis Till, who becomes known as the Grapefather. Many other neighbouring characters join him throughout the 3 volumes. Interesting characters. Some leave, others arrive. But, I was vested in all of them.
There are a lot of details about the wine industry. I learned a lot. There is respect for the land and even for the coyotes who occupied the land long before the vine industry appeared.
There is a lot of drama to keep the readers’ interest…..as in any small and close community. There are a couple of “villains” to add even more drama.
I’m sad that my journey with these people and their community has come to an end. They seemed very real to me. I will miss them.
I highly recommend this series for a page-turning experience. Easy to read and very entertaining.
