The Rampion Child is a retelling of a beloved childhood fairytale. It follows a daughter (Lorelai), and her mother (Breanne) as they go outside of the comfort of their quiet home into the outside world and the monsters it holds. When reading retellings of fairytale stories, sometimes they can be a hit or, unfortunately, a miss. That is not the case for this retelling, the author not only did an amazing job but she also added such passion and love into this story and it was easily heard. The author created a world that easily grabbed the reader in and did not let go. The Rampion Child is more on the darker side, but it aligns with the Brother’s Grimm dark fairytales (that I also enjoyed), I am a true sucker for darker retellings. Each character had their own flaws and demons they were up against. The characters felt real and relatable. They were not perfect (no one is), and I think that was one of the biggest things I look for when reading a fictional story, if the characters are relatable and not overdone. I know it’s difficult to retell a story that has been retold multiple times, but as stated earlier, the author did not disappoint at all.

The depth the author put into this retelling is remarkable and it shows in her writing. I hope the author continues to write retellings with this much passion!
