This is a hard review to write. First of all, Goodreads says this is a horror book and also a thriller and the blurb would have you believing so as well. It is a suspenseful mystery at a stretch. The plot is definitely engrossing and the storytelling kept my butt in the chair. I loved the third-person perspective and having the point of view of multiple characters. A lot of readers don’t like plenty of internal thoughts/dialogue but I feel like it gets me into the characters’ heads and their thought processes.

I found some of the relationships in the plotline were too effortlessly established, especially the trusting factor of some of the characters. Certain situations in this tale aren’t totally believable and some things happen a little too easily compared to what would happen in real life, so for this one, you really have to be able to suspend belief. The female antagonist was more of a caricature than a character and I had a hard time believing her family would put up with that for as long as they did, like years.

So in conclusion I removed half a star for it not living up to the blurb or thriller classification and half for the over-the-top plotline. It was a decent read if a little convoluted.
