First off I would like to say this book has been one of the first books that I read outside of the fantasy genre, and I am pleased and happy that I picked up this book and decided to branch out of my comfort zone! The story follows Tig who travels to Kentucky to paint a portrait of her grandfather, who she barely knows. As the story continues the reader along with Tig start to find out more about her grandfather and the women who passed through his life, and the best way to learn more about a family member you barely knew… speak with the one who not only knew him best but the one who also murdered him. Along with piecing things together, Tig also is confronted with a past she longed to forget.
When I started the book, I was hesitant because Historical fiction was something I barely picked up, unless recommended to me by my best friend or co-workers. As stated at the beginning of this review I mentioned I am happy that I picked up this book and that is 100 percent true! After reading the first page I was hooked and I could not put the book down. The way the author weaved together words that created a beautiful and breathtaking story about the choices we make as women to help another and the cost of keeping it secret. The characters were written whimsically and each one had their own voice and personality. The story also has mystery to it and will continue to keep the reader guessing until the very end. This story will always stick with me, I am saddened that the story ended but happy that I had the chance to read it. I will definitely look into other books that the author had written.
