What a unique book! At the centre of the book are different members of the Schneider family. Three generations are represented. Two timelines, past and present. Multiple narrators. One huge diamond ring.

The first couple of chapters were very confusing. I couldn’t get into the rhythm of the story. But gradually I got clarity

I understood the influence of Liz Taylor pretty quickly. The main female character is Lizzie. The love of her life is Ritchie (Richard). And, of course, the gift of the huge diamond.

This could be considered a spoiler, but not really. The author takes a few pages at the end of the book to explain the many, many subtle tributes to Liz Taylor throughout each chapter. While I was not sharp enough to pick up the references, I found them very interesting.

Interesting family dynamic. Always changing. The diamond played an important role in the story. It meant different things to different characters.

And the characters were likable. Some held secrets. Some were scoundrels.

This is a very entertaining story, told from multiple viewpoints. It is a quick and enjoyable read.

Trigger warning for gambling and alcohol addiction.
