Abi and Jo have been best friends since high school. When Abi found herself getting pregnant during high school, and moving three hours away after high school, Jo stepped up being the Godmother to little Robbie and moving as well. All this, even though Abi betrayed Jo. When Abi’s son Robbie goes off to college, Jo is ready to step in and be there for Abi whenever she needs it. But Abi meets a new man, Noah. Jo is weary of Noah. Then strange things begin to happen at both Abi’s house and Jo’s house: decapitated gnomes, a house being egged, and words painted on concrete. Who is behind these threats to Abi and Jo?
This book is described on the cover as a “totally gripping psychological thriller packed with suspense” but this felt anything but a thriller packed with suspense. Marsh made Jo so whiny and repetitive. If I was to cut out all the similar sentences and paragraphs, at least a fourth of the book would have been cut down, if not more. The book felt less about an “ex between” people, and more about jealousy between best friends. Jo seemed to have never grow up – she felt very immature for a person in their 30s. The prologue was well done, and it is a pretty easy, fast read, but I expected more from the book.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of this book!
