Davila has done it again with an absolutely incredible story. Probably my favorite read of the year!

One thing that is absolutely excellent about her writing is the vivid descriptions and metaphorical prose. This is character-driven fiction at its finest.

Davila pulls you into the journey of our main characters in a way that is both heartwarming and heart-wrenching. Entirely different and each with their own motives, strangers come together and form an unlikely family.

The post-apocalyptic setting is so well described by the author, including the motives and behaviors of many minor characters. She expertly paints a picture as if you are experiencing the story along with our main characters.

Another thing to note is that the first book was so powerful and the characters so well-developed that I did not feel I needed a recap between book one and two. The characterization in this series is just incredible, each with their own strengths and faults. We learned so much more about the backstory and character development of Shanice, Tim, Naveed, Luz and more, even some of the more minor characters such as Ivan or Claudia.

I don’t want to spoil too much, but was not expecting that ending AT ALL! I can’t wait for the next in the series to find out what will happen next.

Thank you to the author for providing a copy to The Book Review crew for me to review! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
