The Burning Library was the first book that I’ve read from this author. The cover of the book and the title intrigued me from the beginning. We follow Dr. Anya Brown as she is recruited by a professor Diana Cornish to join the exclusive Institute of Manuscript and Studies in St. Andrews after she (Dr. Anya Brown) became known internationally as she translated folio 9. Unbeknownst to Anya she just agreed to something more sinister and dangerous. There are two groups, “The Kats” and “The Larks”. Each believe in empowering women, but in different ways, and each group is looking for the same text that would give either group power. Each group would do anything to get this artifact into their hands, even if it means taking out those who stand in the way… regardless of which side they are on.
This book gripped me from the very beginning, and I couldn’t put it down. The plot was intriguing, and it gave off some DaVinci Code vibes. This book kept me guessing until the very end. It was interesting to see how how the author could add in new characters that become important to the plot later on in the book. At first, I had to re-read some parts when characters were introduced, but once I was further into the book, it became easier to follow. The author did an excellent job in crafting her characters. Each character, major or minor, had their own personality, neither one were the same. I loved that the story focused on strong female characters and that they weren’t perfect; they had flaws and they can give in to temptation like the rest of us. I will definitely read more books from this author!
