We’ve seen variations of Scarlett’s origin before. An unlucky person comes across something they shouldn’t, sitting on the border between life and death. These near-death experiences grant them new powers – and responsibilities.
Here’s where things take a turn. Scarlett doesn’t see ghosts – contrary to what previous tales would have us believe. She has entered the Ever Realm, where Dreamers and Nightmares are real. As a new Dreamer, Scarlett is now expected to step up and protect the world from these deadly Nightmares.
I can’t get over how creative Sweet Dreams is! I adore it when a novel uses familiar tropes as a grounding point, but only so they can reach new heights. It’s always a delight to see, and this novel was no exception.
Readers should be warned – when you sit down to read Sweet Dreams, you won’t want to let it go. Or perhaps it’s the book that won’t let go of you. Either way, it will get stuck in your head; I can promise you that much!
