Still Alice is a book following the main character Alice, who is basically successful at everything she does until she slowly wasn’t. One day Alice went for a run on her usual path, suddenly she becomes confused and frantic as she tries to navigate her way back home. Finally home she does not mention what happened as she was running to her husband, she brushed it off as being just overworked and tired. Soon Alice started to notice how often she forgets things, that she knew she should not. Soon Alice is diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s disease. Alice continues to try and do things herself, because she’s always been independent, and never asked for help.

As I read read through the story, I couldn’t help but hope that Alice will get better, or she is just having a nightmare. There is a sadness while the story continues, because you watch this successful, celebrated individual who has a successful career, a loving husband and children, start to slowly lose grasp of her life and she is doing her best to hold on to the littlest pieces of herself that is left. The author wrote a beautiful, yet heart-wrenching story, that gives some insight into the lives of those suffering from early onset Alzheimer’s and how it effects not just the individual who has the disease but also the family who are doing their best to be there for their mother. Still Alice is not a story that will end in happiness and things will get better, but a story that tests the bonds and love the family has for one another, and how they will overcome such an obstacle.
