What a fun rollercoaster this book turned out to be. We follow the main character Eska De Caraval who is an archeologist and her days are spent with finding hidden cities and digging up artifacts… although sometimes she may not have acquired them by ethical means. One artifact in particular is said to be part of the Gods. After acquiring such a thing Eska is thrown into a fight with many creatures and foes alike.

This book had me on my toes wanting to know what happens next. Eska is a character that does things her way but does her best to not drag anyone down with her. She cares for her workers, family and those in the cities she visits. The authors did a wonderful job showing her growth throughout the book, along with great story development. Lastly, the cover can be deceiving, when I picked the book up I thought it would be more of a grim dark story, however, it felt more like Indiana Jones with a mix of fantasy. I was not disappointed!
