I have enjoyed every Abby Jimenez book that I have read. On the surface, they seem like a light romance story. But, they are so much more. There are always one or two sub-plots that have depth. Often animals (cats or dogs) play an important part. The characters are often quirky. There are always a few laugh-out-loud moments.

The author includes a short section at the start of the book listing the trigger warnings. The main triggers in this book are: advancing dementia and mention of past physical and emotional child abuse.

There is lots of drama and angst present. Samantha and Xavier carry on a long-distance relationship that is full of roadblocks. I kept cheering them on, hoping for a positive resolution.

I had a lot of empathy for Samantha and her family, trying to cope with a mother who had early onset dementia (in her 50s). I am familiar with the heartache of watching a loved one deteriorate. It was realistically portrayed.

I love that dogs and a cat were included. The cat had a very unusual condition but it was resolved. Pets play an important part in the lives of many people. I love it when they are integrated into a story, giving another dimension to the characters as they interact with their pet(s). The dog even made it to the cover of the book!

This was a quick and entertaining read. Thoroughly enjoyable for me.
