So, I’ll confess that I had kinda put off reading Revelle. It came in one of my early 2023 OwlCrate boxes (I’m blanking on which one), but I only recently got around to reading it. Why? I knew it leaned heavily on Moulin Rouge, something I’m not a subject expert on. I was worried it would dampen my enjoyment of the book.
And it honestly may have. I’ll need somebody who has read/seen both to comment on the accuracy of that statement. But I can honestly tell you I did not fall in love with Revelle. On the bright side, it wasn’t a bad read either.
I thoroughly enjoyed the infusion of magical elements into the captivating setting. Surprisingly, the combination of the two complemented each other in an unconventional manner. However, I wish there had been a deeper exploration of this aspect. It seemed that the romantic plot swiftly took center stage. I have no qualms about romance, particularly within a fantasy backdrop. Still, I craved an opportunity to delve further into the world and the intricacies of its magical system before the romantic development unfolded.
