OwlCrate – A Box of Bookish Goodies

OwlCrate is one of many book boxes currently available for all the bibliophiles of the world. OwlCrate’s focus is on Young Adult, and each monthly box includes a new young adult book and several bookish goodies. Included in the goodies will always be a pin.

Best of all (in my opinion, at least) each month has a special theme for the entire box.

October’s theme for OwlCrate was Legends & Lore.

*In case it wasn’t obvious, don’t look too closely at the rest of this post, if you’re hoping to avoid spoilers!

Book – Legendborn by Tracy Deonn. Legendborn is certainly a novel that fits the theme of Legends & Lore. It’s a YA contemporary fantasy full of magic, secret societies, and brilliant characters (from the sounds of it!). Like all OwlCrate books, this one has an exclusive cover change, however, there has been some controversy around this month’s change (along with swapping the color magic on each hand, the main character appears to be lighter on the OC cover). The book sleeve does also come with a reverse side, in this case, a quote from the book itself. Click HERE to check out my review of Legendborn!

Bookish Goodies – So I know that how people react to boxes is pretty subjective, on the whole. Personally, I was thrilled with the items found within this month’s box. There’s a stunning pin (naturally). There’s also an exclusive sneak peek at Hafsah Faizal’s We Free the Stars, as well as a free audiobook code for Raybearer by Jordan Ifueko (this is the first time I’ve seen something like that included).

Phone Stand – The phone stand is really cute, with a quote from The Star Touched Queen (by Roshani Chokshi, one of my favorite authors, so my bias is going to shine through here) on the front. It looks super cute on my desk!

Windchime – There’s a second wood item in this month’s box, and it’s an adorable moon and star theme. It’s not specific to any fandom, at least, not by appearances. The spoiler card does say that it’s inspired by Woven in Moonlight, but honestly, it’ll fit any book that is centered around stars and moons. But it sounds divine, and I’ve gone and hung it outside my office window.

Soap – Who doesn’t love self-care items in a book box? This month’s OC box came with a small bar of soap created by Motherland Essentials. The bar is plant-based, which is pretty interesting in itself. I personally found the scent to be pretty strong, but that isn’t automatically a bad thing.

Nail FileSpeaking of self-care items, who would have ever thought to include a nail file in a book box? That being said, I’m actually not upset about this inclusion. It’s really pretty (I adore that shade of purple), and will prove useful (obviously).

Bowl Cozy – This is the item that OC had been hyping up pretty hardcore! It was described as a fabric item for the kitchen, that they’ve never seen in any book box. Well, they certainly nailed that! It’s a bowl cozy, and it’s something I would never have thought to buy for myself. So overall I’m pretty happy with it (even though I haven’t actually used it yet, since we’re not quite into soup season yet).

Next up is November’s theme: Growing Wild! The hint promises a reading planner in every November box. Just in time for the new year!
