Nobody Wants Your Sh*t is a non-nonsense guide to decluttering, inspired by the bestselling Swedish Death Cleaning book and saying much the same thing, just with a lot more swearing. It was advertised to me repeatedly on Facebook, amongst all the other articles about organising your life/home that it serves up to me constantly. Probably because I keep reading them, in the (mostly) vain hope that they will help me get rid of stuff. The title and the author’s cheeky pseudonym both appealed to me, so I bought the audiobook, and have listened to it twice. I thought it was great, but it is not for the easily offended…

The principle is simple – get rid of all the stuff you don’t actually need now, so that you don’t leave behind a horrible mess for your loved ones. I had already listened to the Margareta Magnusson book last year, and everything she said resonated, but it didn’t translate into action. This one has certainly not turned me into a minimalist, but I am now making regular trips to the charity shop, and enjoying the buzz every time I find someone who does want something I no longer need.
At 3 hours long, it’s an easy listen – I’ve played it twice already, once in the car on my own, and once over several runs. I liked the narration and while but yes it does get repetitive and there potty mouth quickly loses its impact. It’s  4 basic chapters and while there’s nothing new in terms of tips or tricks, the author does stress what you have to gain by losing the excess. I plan to play it every couple of months, when I feel my downsizing momentum stalling and need a metaphorical kick up the ar*e.
