Michael J. Fox in a cultural icon. I grew up immersed in him, between Back to the Future Movies and Family Ties. He is my age. Suffice to say that I was predisposed to liking anything he wrote. Nonetheless, despite my favoritism, I would recommend this book to anyone who loves memoirs. His character and persona shine through the text. I also know something about Parkinson’s Disease, having watched my father-in-law experience it. This was not just a memoir about an actor but one who is suffering from a debilitating illness.

It is evident from the title that while Michael J. Fox acknowledges his disease and the toll that it takes on his life, this is not simply a book that opines his sorrows. He understands what he is facing but also understands how he is privileged and sees the good in his life. The tone reminds me a little of Tuesdays with Morrie but a bit more tongue-in-cheek and is written my him (though it is hard to imagine that Fox did not have help). This is a book that I can see myself rereading at some point again in the future, perhaps at a time when I need a bit of inspiration. Which means that I may be reading it again soon.
