When I started this book I had no idea that it was sort of a follow up to Ms. Redfearn’s previous book, In An Instant. A few of the main characters were in the last book. This one references the major incident of the previous book quite often. Since I read the previous book, I’m not sure if I can tell or not if this one can be a stand alone. I think it would confuse me if I had not read the other book. There are many references to characters from the previous book.

The main premise of Moment in Time is the socially relevant incident of date rape resulting from a cocktail that contained a drug. But the story gets quite convoluted after the incident. There is a new twist at every turn. But, I’m not sure that it worked for me. There are some highly unlikely and unbelievable coincidences as the story progresses. And there is a turnabout from the original crime to one that could turn out to be much more sinister. But, I never actually figured it out. I’m not even sure if I was supposed to figure it out.

Characters are varied. The 3 main females appear to be strong women but two of them make some terrible decisions. The villain is pure evil. Though we don’t see a lot of him, he is the most believable.

Not surprisingly for me, my favourite character was Ruby, a dog who was going through PTSD and made great progress throughout the book.

I appreciated the author’s explanation at the end of the book. She told the reader in great detail how she came to tell the story. And, absolutely, it is a story that needs to be told, over and over. It’s a travesty that the hands of the law are tied in many date rape situations when the victim has been drugged.

I wish I could have liked this book more, I was looking forward to reading it. But, I see that according to other reviewers, many have liked it. I’ve always said that not every book is for everybody. This book was not for me.
