OwlCrate – A Box of Bookish Goodies

Owlcrate is one of many book boxes currently available for all the bibliophiles of the world. OwlCrate’s focus is on Young Adult, and each monthly box includes a new young adult book and several bookish goodies. Included in the goodies will always be an elusive pin.

Best of all (for those collectors out there), each month has a special theme for the entire box.

May’s theme for OwlCrate was Expect the Unexpected.

*In case it wasn’t obvious, don’t look too closely at the rest of this post, if you’re hoping to avoid spoilers!

Book – May’s OwlCrate is a book that I am personally head over heels for, The Ones We’re Meant to Find. This is a novel that spoke to my heart and captivated my imagination all in one. But I’ll cover that more in my review! (Which posts tomorrow, hint hint). I loved the OwlCrate edition of this book, as it comes with a foil design on the hardcover. Plus, the book is signed. I’ll be adding that to my collection (I am currently at three unique copies of The Ones We’re Meant to Find and counting – that’s how much I loved it). – Check back on June 16th for Cat’s review!

ADSM Book Tin – Let’s start with the hottest ticket item in this month’s box, yes? Book tins are all the rage right now, and OwlCrate is currently in the process of releasing a set of book tins surrounding V. E. Schwab’s A Darker Shade of Magic series. This is the second tin in a set of four, and I am absolutely in love. My first tin got taken over by my bookmarks, and I think I’ll be dedicating this one to storing bookish stickers.

Rule of Wolves Scarf – The next item is another one that fans were super eager to find out about. At least, I know I was. This was one of the items teased about, promising a licensed Grishaverse item created by Out of Print. I love the scarf, but as I don’t wear many scarves, I am trying to figure out what I will do with it. I will likely end up trying to frame/hang it, as the design is quite lovely.

Corduroy Bag – There’s one more large item in this box, which is a corduroy bag inspired by the Illuminae Files trilogy. I haven’t read the series, but even I can appreciate this quote! Plus, I adore that the bag has a zipper on the top to keep everything safely inside.

Sticker – May’s OwlCrate box hinted at an item inspired by The Gilded Wolves, and it turned out to be a sticker. The sticker is really cute, so no complaints here! Though I would love some suggestions on cute ways to display bookish stickers – I’m at a bit of a loss there and have several that I really adore (before you ask, the backs of my ereader and laptop have already been spoken for).

Bookmark – Normally I bundle the smaller items together, but I did want to talk about every item this month. Which brings us to the last item in this book, a bookmark inspired by Scythe and the Fifth Season. It’s metal and has some beautiful colors, however, it does have one downside. The paint on mine seems to be chipping off. Not badly, mind you. But bad enough that I’m going to have to seal it before I try to make any use of it.

And here’s a peek at what the two tins look like together. Naturally, I legit can’t wait for the last two of the series, because I am in love. Also, I may just need some more shelf space in order to properly show them off. That will be a problem for future Cat to deal with.

June Hints & Theories:

Next up is June’s theme: Go Your Own Way! The spoiler card promises to include an enamel item (not a keychain) from Pineapple Sundays (super cute name, btw). The spoiler card also mentions that this item has never been sent in a box before. I don’t know if they mean specifically sent in an OwlCrate box or any bookish box, but it certainly has grabbed onto my curiosity. Can’t wait to see what it is!

What else do we know about June’s box? The dust jacket will be reversible and designed by Pauliina Hannuniemi, and it’s going to have a foil design! (swoon).

Items in the box are going to be inspired by the following fandoms: Throne of Glass, Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, The Starless Sea (yes!), Strange the Dreamer, and Fable.

Other hints: 1.) June’s box will include the second drinkware item from OwlCrate’s Collection, leaving two left after this. Item will be designed by Macarena Chomik. 2.) A ‘large and useful item’ designed by Janine Lecour. According to OC, they’ve never included an item like this before. Which makes two mysteries that have never been seen before (for OwlCrate, at least). Any theories?
