OwlCrate – A Box of Bookish Goodies
Owlcrate is one of many book boxes currently available for all the bibliophiles of the world. OwlCrate’s focus is on Young Adult** (with a strong leaning towards fantasy), and each monthly box includes a new young adult book and several bookish goodies. Included in the goodies will always be an exclusive pin.
Best of all (for those collectors out there), each month has a special theme for the entire box.
May’s theme for OwlCrate was Against All Odds.

*In case it wasn’t obvious, don’t look too closely at the rest of this post if you’re hoping to avoid spoilers!
**I should mention that there are actually two OwlCrate options at the moment. Middle Grade and Young Adult. Additionally, OwlCrate just announced that they’ll be launching a book-only subscription for adults. They’re hoping to have it out in early July, to my understanding. I can’t wait!
So…it’s been a little more than a year since I’ve done one of these. That said, I have remained subbed to OwlCrate the whole time. But I missed writing these, so here I am! Here’s hoping I’m more consistent about these in the future.
Overall, I have to say that I’m really happy with May’s OwlCrate box. Okay, more than really happy! I’m thrilled, especially with one item in particular. On that note, let’s dive in!
Book – Let’s talk about the book first, shall we? May’s book is Divine Rivals. This book has been such a hit in the book community (at least, the book communities I’m in). I already have a copy of this book. I read it and loved it. That said, I’m not going to complain about having a special edition of this beauty. The colors surprised me, but I think they did a great job with it. And those sprayed edges!
Pin – Since this is my first OC reveal of the year, I should mention that OC is now doing a new pin theme. It’s called Treasured Tombs, and each pin is a cute little book. Better yet, they actually open and close! I’m in love. This month featured We Hunt the Flame.
Ceramic Bowl – Here’s the item I was the most excited about! OC decided to continue their limited edition ceramic bowl collection featuring different locations from Lord of the Rings. This month’s bowl is my favorite – Rohan.
Wax Seal Kit – Admittedly, I was a little less excited to see another wax seal kit. I love the aesthetics of wax seals, but I never seem to get around to actually using the kits. Anyway, this little kit was inspired by Dance of Thieves.
Bookmark Tin – Next up, we have a bookmark tin. I love the idea…though my bookmark stash would not fit in this. But still! I could fit my favorites in it or use it to hold the bookmarks I use the most. Cute idea. The tin is inspired by The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea.
Bookmark Set – Of course, they couldn’t provide us with a bookmark tin without also giving us a few bookmarks! These ones are really cool in that they are actually transparent. They look a bit like stained glass. Their themes are Daughter of the Moon Goddess, Six Crimson Cranes, and A Magic Steeped in Poison.
June’s Hints & Theories:
Now it’s time to determine what we know about June’s box. Any fun theories you want to share? The theme for June is: If the Fates Allow. The hint card has a distinctly Greek feel to it, so we’ll see how that goes. Here’s what I know:
- June’s book has lots of murder and mayhem. Based on the description, the book community is pretty certain they know what it is*** (see bottom of this page if you want spoilers)
- The book has a redesigned dust jacket printed on transparent vinyl.
- The book also has a hardback case with exclusive holographic foils. The end pages are holographic and portray exclusive character art.
- The mystery book also has been signed by the author and contains some bonus content.
- Items inside the box are inspired by The Song of Achilles, Percy Jackson, and The Scorpio Races.
- One of the items is designed by @vitkovskaya_art
***Spoiler Warning***
The book is likely Threads That Bind by Kika Hatzopoulou.
