Can I just say WOW to begin this review. Everything about this book and the author’s writing style screams classic fantasy, and I am all for it! I felt like I was reading a novel written by Tolkien. It is refreshing to read a fantasy book without the constant and popular tropes that are being talked about in today’s world. I love that each character has their own personality and flaws; I am big on reading books with characters that are not picture perfect. The author created a fun and loving world that hooks on to the reader and never letting them go. As I continue to read, I felt a sense of calming and coziness to the story, as I felt it is okay to forget about the world and jump into this one and let the weight from your shoulders lift. The story read smoothly; each word, chapter, character and scenes were written with such care and love from the author, that I felt I was getting a glimpse into the author’s heart. As I continued to read, I could tell that this world that was created is special to the author. Lastly; I would like to mention the length of the book; it is under the 300 page mark. Although the book is small, there was enough world-building, adventure and action in the book to where it never felt like something was missing in the story or the reader questioned as if something was missing, or the story was incomplete. For fantasy, I always believed the books will need to be at least 300 plus pages; everything is fiction and when creating a new world, along with the characters etc. I can’t imagine a book especially in a fantasy series be less than 300 pages. The author Steven David Sims proved me wrong with Marlsbeth. The story never skipped a beat, and it had just the right amount of details describing what needed to be described without making the reader (myself) confused or needed to stop to go back to the beginning of the story to search for something that I may have missed. I cannot wait to continue to the story!
On a side note, I just found out that there is an audiobook version, excuse me while I listen!
