Magic Lessons is a book that has been on my radar from the moment it was announced. So you better believe that I snatched it up the second that I saw it available as one of October’s Book of the Month options.

Magic Lessons is a novel written for the fans of Practical Magic. Maria Owns has long been infamous, a woman known for casting a curse on all the women in her family. Well, now it is time to finally learn the full story of her life.

Maria Owens was born during a dangerous time for witches. She lived through the Salem Witch Trials, and worse. Her life and the lessons she learned all directly impacted her opinion of others, and her reason for wanting to create such a horrid and long-lasting curse.

In case it wasn’t obvious, Magic Lessons is a long-awaited prequel to Practical Magic. Set long before the curse ever existed, it’s a tale of witches, lessons, love, and life. It’s both heartbreaking and heartwarming, at the very same time.

I don’t believe anybody would go into this novel expecting to learn that Maria Owens had anything but a hard life. Still, I was blown away by what actually happened within these pages. Her tale was so much more than I had expected. Both her origin and the events that followed the curse.

Magic Lessons was, ironically enough, an enchanting read. It is very much a story that the fans deserved, and it is also one that will linger with readers for years to come. Much like the original.
