From the moment I picked this one up, I wanted to know more about these characters and what secrets they were hiding. Well, maybe they weren’t really hiding secrets, but as the reader I did not know pertinent information about them. The author did such a good job of slowly developing the characters and keeping me wanting more. With multiple POVs, I was able to see the bigger picture. And the writing style made it a quick, easy read.
As a tax accountant, I chuckled to read about Sophie’s ambition to be a forensic accountant for the FBI. I almost applied for that job and rarely read a book with my occupation at the front and center.
I unfortunately spoiled the big twist by looking ahead in the book. Note, never do that in a thriller/suspense book. LOL but I did fall for a few of the other twists.
It’s been a while since a book grabbed me from page one, so if you need that type of read, I’d grab this one.
About the bookA desperate woman. An irresistible invitation. An escalating nightmare of secrets, lies, and murder.
Bree’s new home is luxurious and private, with a fancy Beverly Hills address. What a shame it’s not hers. Widowed, penniless, living in her car, and out of options, she’s climbed the fence and crashed in the pool house. All she wants is a good night’s sleep. But when Sophie, the absentee owner, finds her, she gets a whole lot more.
Sophie invites Bree back for a party. When it winds down, Bree can’t resist sneaking upstairs to sleep in a real bed. But the next morning, she wakes to find Sophie’s dead body floating in the pool. As the resident vagabond, she’s both the only witness and the prime murder suspect.
Bree knows she shouldn’t run, but her husband’s death was mysterious, too. If she’s going to clear her name, she’s going to have to work fast. Because the killer is still out there, and she’s next.
