Touted as a cross between Dirty Dancing and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, I expected this book to be charming, witty, sweet and fun.

It was a miss on all levels for me. I realize I’m in the minority here compared to all of the Goodreads ratings thus far, but honestly this was such a boring read to me. There were so many characters and the book switched POV’s every chapter. It was a lot to manage all that information for a ‘Summer Beach Read’.

The characters were also not great people. Snarky or mean-spirited, obtuse or straight up difficult people. Even several fat-shaming comments were included throughout the story. Ugh, as a writing culture, are we not past all this yet?

The story was disappointing overall, for me. I’m glad other people are enjoying it but it’s not anything like what it’s suggested to be and that may be the biggest reason why I didn’t enjoy it.

On to the next read!
