This was an interesting story, it follows our main protagonist Lin in the city of Eivar. She has kept hidden her true past and family ties and is now focusing on being a lyricist/musician in a place where it is forbidden for women to achieve such dreams. The night before the festival, Lin learns that an ancient scourge is returning and it will bring ruin to the kingdom. In a kingdom where lyricists and poets once could weave enchantments before losing their power to the king. Lin and others must regain their enchantments and save their kingdom from a future of destruction and a plague known as the Red Death.
The author did a phenomenal job of creating a story that feels and reads nothing like the other fantasy books i’ve read in a long time. Each character has their own role to play in the book regardless if it’s for evil or good. The plot of the story is unique and enjoyable to see it unfold the deeper you get into the book. The characters have their own flaws and perks, there were times while reading I would feel so many emotions because of a character’s actions but i always say those are the books that are worth reading. The book was easy to follow, the world the author created was unique but also breathtaking (I mean, look at the cover). I cannot wait to continue this journey with Lin and her companions.
