About the Book:

The explosively addictive locked-room thriller from New York Times best seller Clare Mackintosh! A lot can happen in 20 hours when you’re at 38,000 feet….

A claustrophobic thriller set over twenty hours on one airplane flight, with the heart-stopping tension of The Last Flight and the wrenching emotional intensity of Room, Hostage takes us on board the inaugural nonstop flight from London to Sydney.

Mina is trying to focus on her job as a flight attendant, not the problems of her five-year-old daughter back home, or the fissures in her marriage. But the plane has barely taken off when Mina receives a chilling note from an anonymous passenger, someone intent on ensuring the plane never reaches its destination. Someone who needs Mina’s assistance and who knows exactly how to make her comply.

It’s twenty hours to landing. A lot can happen in twenty hours.

My Review:

I just read Falling last week so it’s a little funny that I decided to pick up Hostage right after. I’m going to try not to compare the two books in my review as they are overall a different story that just happens to have the same theme.

In Hostage, there are a variety of characters that are provided POV’s in the story. It did get a little confusing for me at times. Wondering why new characters were important enough to be introduced with a POV. In some cases, I felt like it was unnecessary to do so and just caused the book to be longer.

But I understand what the author was going for and I think it’s an acceptable method of telling the story. It was all about allowing the reader to try and determine who was the responsible party.  I think this could have been done without introducing so many people but regardless, this locked mystery concept was really fun!

The actual events that take place were interesting, and kept me wanting to listen to the next chapter. I even was listening to this one while I was doing dishes and cleaning the house. I had to keep reading to find out what was going to happen!

My biggest complaint about this story is the end. It was so rushed! I had all this anxiety (good anxiety) while reading the book and then the end came and I blinked and almost missed it. Except….the very, very end was so….DELICIOUS!! Jaw-dropping! WOW!! That part made up for the rushed ending of the story. When you read the book, you’ll know what I mean.

Overall a great read!
