This is the first book in a paranormal romance trilogy about a werewolf who ran away from her family and pack, only to be transformed into a Golden Retriever by a witch and adopted by her fated mate. I bought it on special having seen various positive reviews, and quite enjoyed it in spite of the stupidity of the main character and ickiness of some of the themes (attempted rape, incest etc)
Cin was the daughter of the Grayling werewolf pack’s alpha, but ran away from her Alaskan home ten years ago when her evil brothers tried to rape & kill her. She’s happy running a bookshop in California, but when her family finally track her down, they force her to take the curse meant for her mother. Now stuck in dog form, she’s dumped in a shelter, and life seems bleak until handsome shifter Han walks in to rescue her – but how can she convince him of who she really is – and does she really want to?
This was enjoyable nonsense with the usual urban fantasy snarky heroine but some subversion of the usual tropes. It does end without any resolution so you need to know in advance if you want to read the whole trilogy (all three are now out) – I haven’t decided yet if I will, as with so many other books to read, as I’m not invested enough to care that much about Cin and her plight. I liked some of the minor characters like Cin’s new feline friend Bebe, and this wasn’t a typical romance plot, although it’s probably heading that way.
