Guys, I could not be more excited about the release of Fugitive Telemetry. This is the sixth installment in Martha Wells’ Murderbot Diaries, one of my all-time favorite series! The series follows a rogue SecUnit (who privately uses the name Murderbot) and their never ending quest to keep their humans safe. Okay, it’s a bit more complicated than that, and there’s way more sass and sarcasm involved.
The humans want to believe that Preservation Station is perfectly safe. The nasty corporations can’t reach them here, and there is very little crime. Murderbot knows better – so they’re not exactly surprised when a dead body shows up.
To be clear, it was not Murderbot’s fault. They are however going to get pulled into the investigation, as the humans are not equipped to handle a full-scale murder investigation. Which means that Murderbot is going to have to actually interact with even more humans.
Now would probably be a good time for me to mention how obsessed I am with this series. I recently bought the audiobooks (thank you, Libro!) and have been more or less listening to them on repeat. My excuse was to prepare myself for Fugitive Telemetry.
A novella that I already adore. This is a novella that I’ve been waiting for. Not just because it brought more of that sarcastic SecUnit I love (though there is that), but because we’re finally getting a chance to see more of Preservation Station.
This was a tense and thrilling read, with lots of humorous and sarcastic moments to help alleviate all of that tension. Murderbot’s personality is still shining through, and it was nice to get a chance to see different humans and bots playing more of a role this time around. As for that ending? It literally sent chills down my spine, and now I can’t wait for the next installment of this series.
