This book was such a pleasant surprise, and I absolutely loved it. As is usual with me, I enjoyed the earlier timeline of the story and reading about Nolwen’s childhood in Wales. I also liked the parts where she is a young adult new to the WRAF. After that, the book started to drag a tiny bit and became a tad repetitive, and if you know me, you know that’s a pet peeve of mine.

I loved getting to know Nolwen Jones and her family. I learned a few things about what made her who she is. She suffered so much as a youngster and despite, or maybe because of it, she became successful in both her personal and professional life. Even though she’s a bit older than I am (she’s closer to my older sister’s age), I loved the timeline of the earlier part of the book as it reminded me a lot of my childhood while I was growing up.

This was a very nostalgic, poignant, sad and funny read. It’s a touching and personal story that had me feeling so many emotions and was wonderfully written. Part historical fiction and part biography I really enjoyed this and would read another book by the author. The first half of the book was five stars, and the second three, so I am going with four stars.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the Advance Readers Copy.
