âIâd spit on a man for calling you pretty. Youâre extraordinary. The first and last of your kind.â
Sig, a hockey player, is on his way to see his father when his truck breaks down. He goes into a country club to get help and meets Chloe. For him, it was basically love at first sight. After spending some time together, they both have to part ways with a promise to see each other later that night. What they didnât expect was to wind up at the same place because their parents are marrying each other. With Chloe off to Boston with Sig, he vows to take care of her, but only be her best friend. They canât be making waves with both of their careers and family standing. Lines are a bit blurry as it seems they were meant to be more.
Honest review alert! I feel like I may be in the minority with this book. Iâve seen so many great reviews, but I really struggled with it. It was like within moments of meeting Chloe, Sig was SO into her, knew that she was it for him. The instalove was intense, his obsession was intense. And even though Bailey was telling us that weeks and months were passing by, it didnât FEEL that way because the characters didnât seem to change or grow in any way. So the obsession felt a bit icky to me, and then I just never got rid of the ick feeling while I was reading the book. I think that sort of ruined the whole book for me.
Chloe was raised with a silver spoon in her mouth. But I feel like Bailey was really over the top with this â I mean, if you get a dog, what adult doesnât know that you have to get dog food? I could see her not knowing how to do the laundry and not knowing how to cook intricate meals, but how did she not realize that things cost money? Honestly, she was just really spoiled and it was kind of annoying. Sig didnât help this either and I just wanted to shake him and say, âWake up and stop spoiling her; she needs to learn how to be a human!â
The whole âwe want to but we shouldnâtâ and/or âwe want to but we canâtâ was said or implied sooooooo often, it could be a game! Iâve liked other Bailey books, this one just didnât really work for me. BUT, like I always say, others loved it! So, just because it didnât work for me, doesnât mean that you may not enjoy it.
