This is the second book of the Wayward Children. This series follows our favorite fairytale characters but with a more gothic and sinister twist. In “Down Among the Sticks and Bones” we follow Jacqueline (Jack) and Jillian (Jill) as they are born to parents who only care about status and what others think of them over the well being of Jack and Jill. Jack was her mother’s favorite, she was polite, quiet, fashionable and the perfect “Mother’s girl”. Jill on the other hand was her father’s favorite, adventurous, bit of a tom-boy, and thrill seeking the perfect “Daddy’s girl”. One day, they were in their attic and found a door that led them away from home “Be sure” a sign read as it hung on the door. When they entered through the door and to the mysterious place, they ran as the bloody moon watched.

Jack and Jill went their separate ways, Jill chose the “Master” of the manor, whereas as Jack chose the “Mad scientist”. Both girls learned what it means to grow up too quickly and yet still be too young to make such choices. When stepping into this new world, it allowed for Jack and Jill to truly explore who they are and what they truly want to become. I really loved this book and the way the author could write distinct personalities for both Jack and Jill.
