This book was a challenge in how to rate it. I don’t really read a whole lot of coming-of-age stories, but this one tugged at my heart. The FMC had a emotionally abusive mother who was broken inside as well as the FMC. Both wanting love. The FMC felt like she was lost in translation in life and no matter how hard she tried being positive for others, her life would spiral downwards.

She did have those who were her constants to go to in the story, which gladdened me. Otherwise, I was tearing up. She went from practically homeless to giving the speech at graduation. She definitely was strong-willed and found herself in the end. Just like Ruth did following her mother-in-law in the Bible. She went through trials and was wealthier than when she left her homeland.
