Back in the 1960s, there was a raunchy but fun book called Coffee, Tea or Me about the adventures of 2 airline stewardesses. This book has the same basic premise but with many serious overtones. Not based on raunchiness but more about friendships and the real life of flight attendants, who are no longer called stewardesses.
Extensive research was done by the author by interviewing former stewardesses. The 1960s were considered the Golden Age of travel. The requirements were strict, both for the appearances and behaviour of employees. I knew about some of it, some was new to me. The details about the industry are quite factual but the author acknowledges that she had to bend a few facts to fit into the storyline cohesively.
I love the title, based on a Frank Sinatra song that was popular in the 1960s. Come Fly With Me. One of the featured stewardesses was enticed by this song to choose this career path.
The 2 main characters, Judy and Beverly came from totally different backgrounds but forged a wonderful relationship. They both grew from their choices.
There was an unexpected turn at the end of the book. It was hinted at throughout but, it still was a surprise. Again, it was based on a real life incident.
Enjoyable story. Wonderful cover, so reminiscent!
