This gorgeous cover sets the mood perfectly for Cinderella is Dead!

“The gourds in the royal garden are grown at the very spot where the remnants of her carriage were gathered up. And I’ve heard that when her tomb was still open to the public that the slippers were actually inside.”

But something is very, very wrong in the town of Lille, where Cinderella met Prince Charming and was said to live happily ever after.

That was a lie. Cinderella is dead. Has been for 200 years. Now there is a sinister darkness that lays over the town of Lille. Cinderella’s story is about to be turned upside down and inside out.

The extravagant balls still take place, but the purpose is oh, so different. A girl of age must attend the ball to be chosen by an ‘eligible’ man. Girls who aren’t chosen by their third ball are considered forfeit.

Sophia is determined to push back on the status quo, especially since she’s in love with her best friend, Erin. But more that than that, Sophia questions the darkness that the rest of the town pretends not to notice.

“I try to tally up how many young women have turned up dead in Lille in the years since I’ve been old enough to understand such things. The dead number in the dozens, but the missing are more than I can count.”

With her parents following tradition, she is forced to attend her first ball. Life in Lille will never be the same.

“I don’t want to be saved by some knight in shining armor. I’d like to be the one in the armor, and I’d like to be the one doing the saving.”

This is such a powerful book, reflecting the double standards for men and women that exist in the real world today. As well, Sophia and Erin, struggling with being ashamed and hiding their love for each other based on what is acceptable behavior within their society is a typical experience in our every day lives.

For those two reasons alone, this book should be of interest to every woman and man who want to change this world for the better. Add to that this twisted new Cinderella story, and this book may need to be towards the top of your TBR list!
