About the book

Whatever doubts I’ve had about my fiancé, I’m determined this will be the happiest day of my life. I smooth the expensive white silk of my perfect dress and retouch my make-up, trying to cover the dark circles under my eyes. But when I go to find my daughter, her room is empty. My beautiful girl has vanished.  My fiancé William is  devastated as I force our guests to leave. My hands are shaking but as I stand amidst the wilting flowers and the discarded champagne glasses, I swear I’ll stop at nothing to find my daughter.

Then my best friend tells me she saw Tess sobbing before the wedding. I thought I’d built a perfect new family for my little girl, but what if I’ve brought her into terrible danger? I remember the guest I only recognised from old photos. William swore it was all in the past. But was he lying?

I think about the unimaginable secret William told me and I swore to keep forever. Could Tess have found out? Will the truth help me find my daughter? Or will it break us all?

My Review

I’m not sure if I’ve read a book by Clare Boyd before, but she leaves an impression.  This had a little bit of everything in it.  Secrets and lies, mystery and suspense, and a little bit of romance.  The prologue has the bride running from her wedding as she believes her daughter is missing.  Then we are transported back in time to when the soon to be bride and groom are moving in together blending their families.

This is definitely a multi-layered story.  While there is definitely suspense, especially based on the prolugue, the majority of the book is more of a family drama.  With the groom to be harboring secrets along with the teenage children.  It really makes you think about how well you know the people around you and what secrets they could be harboring.  And ultimately if love can conquer all.

I’ll admit it took me a while to become invested in the book, but once I did, I did not want to put it down.  The more I read, the quicker the pace until it hit its climax with everything crashing in.

Domestic suspense lovers should take a look at this one.
