The Happy Family

A mother who disappeared…

An unexpected visitor…
Then one day there’s a knock at the door. Alice has returned. Overjoyed to have the chance to rebuild their relationship, Beth invites her mother to move in.

A life that comes crashing down…
At first, everything seems wonderful. But then Beth’s friends begin to drift away, strange things start to happen at home, and rumours begin to circle about her past. As the mysterious events around Beth become darker and more dangerous, she is forced to question everything. Is somebody in her life trying to destroy her happiness? And how far will they go?

My Review

While listed as a thriller, this is more of a family drama with a few twists.  I thought it was a very easy read, but moved at a slow pace as you learned a lot about the characters.

Beth has always resented that her Mom walked out of her life when she was young, so when she shows back up in her life, she is so overjoyed that she doesn’t question it.

Then odd things start to happen.  Is it a coincidence or is something going on?  While I figured out some of what is to come, I enjoyed the unraveling of the story.  At times Beth seems a little naive, but as her past is woven into the story, it makes a little more sense how she turned out.

I don’t want to tell too much and spoil the plot, but this is a good, quick summer read.  Sit back and enjoy the story as it unfolds.  I think fans of CE Rose, Kelly Heard and CL Taylor will like this book.
