Terrific writing, vivid and raw, Deaver grips from the very first line and never lets up. He is, hands-down, one of the finest thriller writers of our time’ Peter James

The gripping new thriller from the #1 Sunday Times bestseller Jeffery Deaver and the final book in the Colter Shaw series.

Twist left.

Unique Investigator Colter Shaw is searching for the answer to his father’s final, posthumous riddle. It will lead him to evidence that will topple the secretive espionage company, BlackBridge.

Twist right.

He believes BlackBridge to be responsible for his father’s murder and brother’s disappearance. They can outmanoeuvre anyone, as the long trail of bodies behind them can confirm. But they haven’t yet met Colter Shaw.

Don’t slip up.

This time the stakes are huge – the fate of a nation is in Colter’s hands. He must find the solution as to why his father died – but to do that he needs to stay alive…

My Review

Colter Shaw is in the business of finding things.  He’s usually pretty good, but his brother disappeared years ago when his father died and he hasn’t been able to track him down.   Colter recently came across what his father was working on when he died and wants to finish his work.  This is the third full length novel in the series, and while I think I read book one, I don’t think I’ve read the other book or  any of the novellas and I had no trouble following along. The author does a good job of refreshing what was important from previous books.

I liked that instead of just a story centered around finding someone or finding something for someone else, this one is personal for Colter.  It centers around his father and is interspersed with family heritage and gets more interesting when his brother shows up and helps him. You get a great amount of details about his past and what made him who he is today.

There is no shortage of action and twists as Colter works to solve the case and I like that the story was rich with details of San Francisco.  Always making sure the reader understood the importance of the location. I don’t want to give to much away and spoil one of the twists, but as the story unfolds, there are emotional moments for a man that is usually all business, as he reflects on his family, especially his father.

I really enjoyed this outing and was glad to hear there would be more books in the series.  I’m off to track down book 2 and get caught up in the series.  I suggest you do the same.
