About the book

The wife. The mistress. Who will get their revenge?

I was the other woman. The mistress. Everyone blamed Doctor Drew Devlin’s death on me. And I’ve paid the price for loving the wrong man.

Now, I have dark circles under my eyes because I can’t sleep at night. I lost everything – friends, family, my home and even my freedom. Drew’s devious wife Fern tore my whole world apart. And she thinks she’s got away with murder.

But she’s wrong. It’s time for revenge. For myself… and for my baby.

Her new life on the windswept Cornish coast is about to come crashing down around her. I’m determined for everyone to find out the true story. Because now it’s not just my life in danger, I’ve got to protect the doctor’s daughter too.

I know Fern will expect me to come after her – I’m certain she will have her own plan in place to stop me. After all, she’s duped so many people before.

But then again, Fern always did underestimate me. And by the time she realises, it’ll be far too late for the doctor’s wife…

An absolutely addictive psychological thriller with twist after twist from the number one bestselling author of The Doctor’s Wife. If you loved Behind Closed Doors, Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train then The Doctor’s Mistress will keep you reading long into the night!

My Review

This is the third book in the ongoing Doctors series.  And I usually advocate that you can read any book in a series, I do think this one is better read as part of the series.  Without the history, I am not sure if this one will be as compelling.

Alice and Fern are back and I got to see what the two of them are up to.  Alice is seeking out Fern to right the past wrongs and get justice, while Fern is trying to move forward and put her past behind her.  The complex cat and mouse game continues, but can a common problem break that cycle.

I am not sure that I’ve ever like Alice and Fern, but can say I definitely don’t at this point, but I was all in for this continuing saga.  Both women are strong willed and a little clever and I wanted to know who might eventually come out on top.  While the books are short, over the series, I feel I’ve gotten to know the characters pretty well.  I’m invested in the outcome.  And the author is so good at shocking twists that I never see coming.

I’ve had access to the audiobooks in the series and this is perfect on audio.  Luke R. Francis, Sarah Durham do a terrific job bringing the story to life.  And the nature of it was perfect to listen to on my walks and while doing other things.  The story is complex enough to keep my interest but not so overwhelming that I had to concentrate to keep the facts straight.

I would say there was a satisfying conclusion to this story, that I would never have predicted, but in pulling the details for this post, I see there is a fourth book in the series coming out next year.  I can’t wait to see what the author has dreamed up now.  And you have plenty of time to catch up on the series and be ready for this new adventure.  Join the fun and pick this one up.
