‘I loved this absorbing, twisty mystery—Lesley Kara has done it again!’ SHARI LAPENA, Sunday Times No.1 bestselling author of The Couple Next Door
‘Lesley uses the old box of tricks so effectively, misdirecting your attention with expert cunning, then biffing you on the back of the head with her twists.’
DAILY MIRROR ‘Believe me, Lesley Kara knows what she’s doing’ LEE CHILD
Scarlett’s aunt lived – and was brutally murdered – in the apartment upstairs. But Scarlett is determined that life should return to some kind of normal, even if that means living with just a ceiling between her and the scene of such a devastating crime.
After all, this is her home. She’s safe here. Isn’t she?
Dee is busy balancing her job as a funeral director with organising an event to mark the disappearance of her best friend, ten years ago. She’s got enough on her plate without worrying about the threatening messages that are appearing on her company’s Facebook page.
When Scarlett approaches Dee about planning her aunt’s funeral, an unexpected link emerges between them. Together, the two women could uncover secrets that have long been buried. Even while someone wants to stop them digging . . .
My Review
I read so many thrillers and am usually chomping at the bit to solve the mystery, figure out the puzzle and know what the twist is, but for some reason I didn’t with this book. Maybe it was the ease of the writing, but I just let it take me on a ride. Or maybe I was so sure it was obvious where the book was headed, but really it wasn’t. Or it could just be the author, while writing about a twisty murder, sliced open the ordinary bits of life.
I didn’t really like any of the characters, nor did I dislike them. They were a bit of look at how sad my life is, but the story as a whole, I wanted to know what happens. It kept my attention and I finished it in a day.
What more can you ask for in a thriller, but an ending you don’t see coming and a book you don’t want to put down?
