How do you find the truth in a town full of secrets?

When Sally Proulx and her son mysteriously disappear from the stormy town of High River, Clare O’Dey is hired to track them down. She hopes to find them alive, but High River is not a typical town. It is a place where women go to escape their past. The women run to Helen Haines, the community matriarch, who offers them safe haven and anonymity.

Pretending to be Sally’s long lost friend, Clare starts asking questions but nothing prepares her for the deception and lies simmering beneath the surface of this quiet little neighbourhood. As the truth surges through High River, Clare must confront the thing she has been so desperately running from, even if it comes at a devastating cost.

Gripping, twisty and compulsive, Still Water is a deep dive of a thriller that will leave you breathless, perfect for fans of Louise Penny and Liz Nugent.

My Review

🕵️🕵️🕵️🕵️

This is the second book in Amy Stewarts series, Still. I read the first one, Still Mine for my book club and I didn’t quite know what I was getting into but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Amy Stewart has done it again with Still Water. This book is a captivating, fast paced, keep you up through the night just to find out what happens kinda book.

The great part about this being a series is you already know the main characters so I was immediately invested in what would happen to Clare and if she would solve another missing woman’s case. I needed to know what happened next for them.

While some of the material can be a bit dark Stewart doesn’t shy away from the catastrophic effects domestic violence has on these women and their lives and creates a story from their narrative where they’re able to take back their voices. The high steaks case Clare finds herself investigating really creates an interesting story and as more layers are peeled away we see Clare’s past and her complicated relationship with Malcom continue.

One particularly intriguing part to these stories is that the characters are so intertwined and everyone has secrets they’re hiding and people they’re trying to protect. This leaves you trying to piece together the real mystery and decide who can be trusted, what secrets they might be hiding and how far are they willing to go to protect one and other.

I find this creates a very satisfying ending when the truth is revealed and all of the pieces click together.

Amy has done it again with this one I’m certainly interested in seeing where Clare’s dangerous adventures take her in the third installment, Still Here.
